Background of Daegaya History Theme Park

Gaya, an allied body that existed from around the birth of Jesus Christ to A.D. 562 when Daegaya was absorbed into Silla, pushed for independent foreign trade on the basis of its excellent ironware culture and left magnificent cultural heritage like gayageum. As interest in Gaya has grown recently, there has been active research and development on the "Four States," including Gaya, rather than the "Three Kingdoms period" involving Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla. As the capital of Daegaya, Goryeong was particularly known to be the center of the Gaya cultural sphere, encompassing 20 cities and counties including Seongju-gun, Hapcheon, Changnyeong and Hadong in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Suncheon and Gwangyang in Jeollanam-do Province and Namwon and Jangsu in Jeollabuk-do Province, and attracts extraordinary attention from academic circles for the sunjang culture of Daegaya and various relics and ruins. The representative tourism resources include Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs, Daegaya Museum, Jisan-ri Dangganjiju, Janggi-ri rock art, mountain fortress, Doyoji. Goa-ri mural tombs, Banryongsa and Gaegyeongpo. As the capital of Daegaya, Goryeong played the central and pivotal role of Gaya culture and became home to Daegaya History Theme Park to lay the solid foundation for revitalizing Gaya culture by holding the Daegaya experience festival and studying, reorganizing, excavating and restoring Gaya culture.
